Beer & Partners is the largest source of Business Angel capital in the country - indeed we are the only firm that focuses successfully on this market. Our strength is in raising capital between £100,000 and £2 million. It is this range that is generally regarded as the most difficult. We have no preferences on sector, since our investor contacts have a very wide range of interests. Often these companies also need the skills and contacts that experienced ‘Business Angels’ can bring. Our job is to match the two.
Established in 1995, we have grown to over 40 professional colleagues in 8 offices. Our staff includes accountants, bankers and industry specialists. Most of us have run our own businesses and can understand the needs of smaller companies.
Our fees are mainly success based – with a percentage in cash and option shares, based on the amount of funding we introduce. There is a modest retainer fee to reflect the expenses and work required to prepare and authorise the project for marketing.
Exposing your Business to Investors:
Firstly we will review the business plan and meet the management team. Where we believe we can find the right investor among our 700 or so contacts, we will advise on the business plan and the deal structure.
Then, when we have an investment proposal that is sensible for our client and sufficiently attractive to investors, we will market the business.
We market our client through direct personal contact with investors based on our close knowledge of their needs.
We mail our entire investor and contact base of over 2000 with our regular ‘Stop Press’. We regularly hold Investor Fairs where our clients can meet directly with investors.
We then project manage to completion. This includes the investor negotiations, and advice on thelegal formalities – indeed everything that needs to be done to ensure a satisfactory conclusion – that is where our extensive experience in venture capital comes into its own.
